We celebrate Amsterdam 750 on the streets, in the neighborhoods, and high above the city. The renewed rooftop square of NEMO Science Museum is a special gift to the city: a place where you can enjoy the view, nature, and science for free. On Thursday May 22, the green rooftop was officially opened by Mayor Femke Halsema.
Discover, observe, and measure
The renewed rooftop isn’t just a place to enjoy the city view, it’s a place for hands-on discovery. Visitors can measure wind speed, study the sun, moon, and stars through special viewers, or spot urban birds among the flowers and plants. They’ll learn how smart ideas can contribute to a greener, healthier city.
This new green, sustainable rooftop is an artificial landscape designed with nature in mind. With over 75 species of flowers and plants, it helps boost biodiversity and makes Amsterdam more livable. The plants are still small now, but they will grow into a lush green oasis right in the heart of the city.
A place full of inspiration
NEMO’s rooftop is designed as an open urban square; a space where wonder, knowledge, and inspiration come together. Young and old, visitors and experts, scientists, technicians, inventors, and creators all meet here.
The outdoor stage offers a diverse program of events, including film screenings, musical evenings, and stargazing nights.
Rooftop festival during the ToekomstTiendaagse
During the ToekomstTiendaagse (June 12–21), there’s a special program on the rooftop, all about celebrating 750 years of Amsterdam. Expect a morning rave, rooftop safari, live music, a vegan tasting, and theater.
