For Amsterdam’s 750-year jubilee, the National Ballet is organizing ‘Heel Amsterdam Danst.’ In the coming months, experience how dance brings people together all across the city. From free performances in the city districts and Weesp to a spectacular finale on June 15 at the National Opera & Ballet.
From each of the 7 city districts and the Weesp area, a group of residents will learn a section of In C, a ballet by Sasha Waltz. Each group will first present its unique interpretation during a free festive performance in their own district, complemented by performances from local artists and Junior Company dancers.
On June 15, everything comes together: the groups, dancers from the National Ballet, the Ballet Orchestra, and conservatory students will deliver a spectacular performance at the National Opera & Ballet. So dust off your dancing shoes, because sitting still won’t be an option when all of Amsterdam dances!
At the initiative of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet, this project is being captured in a documentary. Participants from different city districts are followed and interviewed, sharing their experiences and reflections on the theme of “sharing space.” The documentary offers insight into the diversity of the participants and their personal stories. This film will later be gifted to the city as a lasting tribute to Amsterdam’s community in 2025.
