In honor of Amsterdam 750, the Amsterdam Light Festival is launching the campaign ‘Nominate a Beacon of Light’. With this campaign, the festival, which lights up the city every winter, aims to honor the people who make Amsterdam special. Extraordinary Amsterdammers can be nominated for a unique canal tour during the festival.
This year, the Amsterdam Light Festival, now a beloved tradition in the city, will shine an extra spotlight on Amsterdam’s jubilee. The ‘Nominate a Beacon of Light’ campaign is a tribute to all residents who make a significant contribution to their community. These could be neighbors who selflessly dedicate their time to improving their street or neighborhood, like the neighbor who is always ready to lend a helping hand, or the friend who takes care of your plants while you’re away.
The nominees will be offered a special canal tour during the upcoming edition of the festival. Along with a guest, these extraordinary Amsterdammers will have the chance to enjoy the light artworks that illuminate the city. This festive canal tour will be one of the highlights of the festival. The exact date will be announced soon, but participants can expect an unforgettable experience.
Amsterdam residents can nominate their beacon of light on the festival’s website. Nominations are free and accessible to everyone. There are no strict criteria: anyone who makes a special contribution to the city and its residents is eligible. Nominations are open until October 1, 2024, after which the lucky nominees will be notified in person on October 27, Amsterdam’s birthday.
The thirteenth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival will take place from November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025. This edition, which coincides with the celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam, will focus on rituals. The festival, organized by a non-profit foundation, ensures that all proceeds are used to realize the artworks and the festival, as well as to support the artists. Tickets will be available for purchase on the official festival website starting October 1, 2024.
The Amsterdam Light Festival not only celebrates the beauty of light but also this year honors the remarkable people who illuminate the city every day.
