Another 6 months until SAIL!

20 February 2025

Another six months and then the time has come: SAIL 2025! This grand maritime event returns to Amsterdam after 10 years. From August 20 to 24, the city will be transformed into a living maritime museum. In this special anniversary year, in which Amsterdam celebrates its 750th birthday, SAIL 2025 promises to be an even more spectacular edition than ever before.

A jubilee edition during a jubilee year

SAIL 2025 is extra special as it not only celebrates its own 10th edition and 50 years of existence, but also coincides with the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam. The theme of SAIL 2025 is therefore: United by Waves – a celebration for everyone who loves water, history, and music!

New ships and international premieres

SAIL is all about extraordinary ships. Traditionally, SAIL kicks off with the spectacular SAIL-In Parade, where numerous historic and large sailing ships enter the IJhaven. This year, several Tall Ships are visiting Amsterdam for the first time, including the B.A.P. Union from Peru and the Shabab Oman II. The Mexican ARM Cuauhtémoc is also returning for the first time since 1985. The full list of ships will be updated in the coming months and can be found here.

New: SAIL On Stage – four evenings filled with music

To mark Amsterdam 750, an additional program feature has been added: SAIL On Stage. These are four concert evenings set against the unique backdrop of the Tall Ships.

  • Wednesday, August 20 – Classical Sounds: The Concertgebouworkest Young with soloists Karsu, Laetitia Gerards, and Lucas van Lierop.
  • Thursday, August 21Dutch Night: Sing along with Jan Smit & de 3JS.
  • Friday, August 22Dance Night: A spectacular evening full of dance beats (line-up to be announced soon).
  • Saturday, August 23 Waves of Music: Davina Michelle, Rolf Sanchez, Numidia, and more!

On May 12, 2025, the full program of SAIL 2025 will be announced, featuring over 200 activities in and around the harbor.
