Big celebration on the A10 Ring Road

04 December 2023

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the longest day of the year, a highway-event will take place. That's when we celebrate Amsterdam's 750th birthday on the 15-kilometer car-free A10 Ring Road. With music, sports, theater, dance, and much more.

Mayor Halsema: “As a capital city, you only turn 750 once in your life. That’s why we’re celebrating it big, at a fantastic location, on the longest day of the jubilee year. Everyone is welcome to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th birthday on June 21.”

Big, bigger, biggest

The idea for a large and freely accessible celebration on the Ring Road was first conceived ten years ago by a group of over 100 Amsterdammers united under the name ‘Amsterdam on the way to 750 years’. The Municipality of Amsterdam will further develop the event over the coming year in collaboration with, among others, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Rijkswaterstaat, safety and transportation partners, and with creative organizations, sports clubs, and cultural institutions from the city.

How are we doing it?

On Friday evening, June 20, 2025, we will close Ring West, Zuid, and Oost (between the exit to the A5 and the exit to the A1) after rush hour. One direction will be open for the event, while the other direction will remain open for emergency services. On June 21, the longest day of the year, the motorway will be the place for celebrating visitors all day and evening. On Sunday, we will dismantle and clean up. The A10 Ring Road will reopen before Monday morning rush hour.

Jubilee year

In the jubilee year, there will be more than 200 activities throughout the city. Musicals, exhibitions, sports, neighborhood activities, stories, photography, fun activities for children, and much more. We start on October 27, 2024, with a spectacular Opening Concert at the Ziggo Dome. On October 27, 2025, the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, we will celebrate the end of the jubilee year with a festive closing. We will announce more details mid-2024.
