Cultural festival The Spirit of Amsterdam is about to start

19 November 2024

In the weekend of November 22 to 24, 2024, The Spirit of Amsterdam brings the city together, specially for Amsterdam 750. This three-day city festival transforms 37 unique locations into theaters, dance floors, quiet spaces, cinemas, dining spots, and more.

91 events at 37 locations.

During The Spirit of Amsterdam, music, art, culture, and rituals come together. Various places of worship in the city will be given a contemporary twist during the festival. There will be no religious messages, but space for connection and solidarity. From intimate concerts and theater performances to inspiring moments of silence and shared meals. The festival consciously focuses on compassion, empathy, and vulnerability, aiming to bring laughter and togetherness back to our city—especially now, in a time when many people feel isolated.

A city coming together

The festival highlights what has made our city unique for 750 years: coming together and sharing stories. In collaboration with artists, social organizations, and local initiatives, The Spirit of Amsterdam invites everyone to participate and contribute to a closer-knit Amsterdam. At least 10% of all tickets will be reserved for people who often “miss out on the party,” such as the homeless or those with limited means.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be inspired and connected during the festival that honors the past of our city and celebrates a future of solidarity. Stefan, the founder of The Spirit of Amsterdam, enthusiastically shares his personal tips for this unique event. Each festival day, we highlight one of his recommendations for you:

  • Friday, November 22 – Zikir at the Fatih Mosque
On the evening of Friday, November 22, you can take part in a unique Sufi ritual: Zikir. This meditative practice, accompanied by music and movement, is a world premiere where men and women come together to connect spiritually. An experience you won’t easily forget!
  • Saturday, November 23 – ZERØ BPM: An 18-Hour Meditation Journey
For those seeking peace and reflection in these hectic times, ZERØ BPM at the Thomaskerk on Saturday is a must. With ambient music, light art, and a special setting, this event helps you literally lower your heart rate. A unique experience that you should experience for at least 1.5 hours – or stay for the whole day!
  • Sunday, November 24 – Embrace at the Vondelkerk
On Sunday evening, Embrace brings you together at the table with people from diverse cultures. Enjoy stories, music, and a delicious dinner in the atmospheric Vondelkerk. The focus is on encounters as you journey together through traditions from around the world.
