H’ART Museum celebrates Amsterdam 750 with two exhibitions

18 September 2024

In honor of Amsterdam's 750th jubilee, the H’ART Museum has announced a special celebration program. Two jubilee exhibitions will highlight the city's rich artistic history, focusing on both classical and modern art. The museum is collaborating with partners from both within the country and abroad for this event.

The jubilee exhibitions

1. ‘Happy Birthday Amsterdam’

The first exhibition, Happy Birthday Amsterdam, will run from December 4, 2024, to March 16, 2025. This colorful exhibition celebrates Amsterdam as an art city and cultural incubator. It features works from 75 artists, ranging from Karel Appel to Marina Abramović, and even a unique portrayal of Johan Cruyff through the eyes of Marlene Dumas. The exhibition is not only a festive celebration of the city but also honors the diverse creators who have left an indelible mark on Amsterdam over the years. The Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands is a key partner in this exhibition.

2. ‘At home in Rembrandt’s Amsterdam’

The second exhibition, titled At home in Rembrandt’s Amsterdam (working title), will open on April 9, 2025, and run until August 24, 2025. The highlight of this exhibition is seventeen paintings by Rembrandt, sourced from the prestigious private collection of The Leiden Collection. For the first time, this unique collection of Rembrandts will be presented to the public in its entirety. In addition to Rembrandt, works by other great Dutch masters, such as Vermeer and Frans Hals, will also be on display.

Women of Amsterdam – a tribute

The H’ART Museum houses three museums: H’ART Museum, Museum van de Geest, and Amsterdam Museum. In parallel with the exhibitions at the H’ART Museum, the Amsterdam Museum will host the exhibition Women of Amsterdam – a tribute starting December 14, 2024. This exhibition focuses on the often-overlooked women who have made significant contributions to the city. It is a tribute to their legacy, told through historical objects and contemporary artworks.
