“When I am asked to sing Jacques Brel’s 'In de Stad Amsterdam' at the opening of the celebration year Amsterdam 750 with the Metropole Orchestra, as a born-and-bred Amsterdammer and admirer of Brel, I can only say, 'It is an honor, yes please!”

This unique performance is part of a diverse program on Sunday, October 27, at the Ziggo Dome, where other well-known artists such as Willeke Alberti, André Hazes, S10, and René Froger will also perform. During the concert, the audience will be taken on a musical and visual journey through 750 years of Amsterdam. The city’s rich history comes to life through music, dance, and stories. Huub van der Lubbe, a born-and-bred Amsterdammer himself, is an essential part of this special evening.

A glimpse of the program

The opening concert offers a tribute to Amsterdam, where diverse music and dance traditions merge. The Metropole Orchestra, the dance company ISH, and the ZO! Gospel Choir form the core of the show, alongside a series of guest artists. Willeke Alberti will pay homage to Ramses Shaffy, while S10 and Sef will deliver a special performance of “De Leven.” Additionally, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Edsilia Rombley, and Berget Lewis will present a musical tribute to Amsterdam as a sports city.

The Metropole Orchestra will also bring the energy of house music to life, from the ’90s to the present. The dance collective ISH will provide a spectacular performance that honors the iconic nights of Amsterdam. This is just a taste of what the audience can expect during this festive event.
