Today, Mayor Halsema struck the first silver commemorative coin for 750 years of Amsterdam at the Ziggo Dome, in the presence of Minister of Finance Eelco Heinen. The 750 Years Amsterdam Five-Cent Coin is minted on behalf of the Ministry of Finance and is available for purchase directly on the website of the Royal Dutch Mint.
The ceremonial First Strike of the new commemorative coin took place before the Amsterdam 750 Opening Concert, marking the start of the jubilee year in a special way. In addition to striking the first coin, Mayor Femke Halsema also received a pair of earrings from mint master Bert van Ravenswaaij. These and other limited edition jewelry pieces have been specially designed by the Royal Dutch Mint for Amsterdam’s 750th jubilee year.
