The design

The memorial coin is designed by artist Hans Gremmen and showcases both the present and the past of Amsterdam. The coin features an image of an old stamping tool from 1350, combined with modern typography and the coat of arms of Amsterdam. On the front, there is a portrait of King Willem-Alexander, depicted in a style reminiscent of earlier Dutch monarchs.

The memorial coin is available for purchase in various editions, including silver and gold versions. There are also special coincards available featuring images of iconic Amsterdam buildings. The coin is available in limited quantities and can be ordered now via the website of the Royal Dutch Mint.

The memorial coin is minted on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, which selects two subjects each year for a special memorial coin. De Nederlandsche Bank oversees this process and adds the coin to the National Numismatic Collection.

This coin celebrates Amsterdam’s rich history and ensures that the jubilee remains a lasting reminder for everyone.
