There are now 40 solar panels on the roof of the Aslan Music Center in Amsterdam-West, music has never sounded so sunny! The solar panels are a gift to the city in honor of the anniversary year. A total of 5,500 solar panels have been donated, which will be placed on dozens of social buildings owned by the Municipality of Amsterdam.
Every week, 16,000 Amsterdammers receive a lesson provided by Aslan. A cafeteria with colorful walls, various instruments, and photos of performances give the Amsterdam school building a warm and lively atmosphere. Aslan Music Center believes that music is limitless. By immersing yourself in each other’s music, you will better understand one another, even if you know little about each other’s culture or background. Here, you don’t just dance in harmony; you also live more in harmony. Music is a beautiful way to get to know each other better.
Aslan believes that everyone should have access to music lessons and therefore keeps the prices low. The electric instruments are powered by panels that were recently installed on the roof. From saz to electric guitar and from street dance to theater and musical.
With the solar panels, about 8% of the total electricity is generated. The savings on the electricity bill contribute to Aslan’s ability to continue offering affordable music lessons.
This building, located on Corantijnstraat, is owned by the City of Amsterdam. The 40 solar panels are a gift for the anniversary year, as the city is celebrating its 750th anniversary this year. ING and Kroonenberg Group donated solar panels worth 4 million euros to the city, enabling the installation of 5,500 panels.
These solar panels will be installed on the roofs of dozens of buildings with a social purpose, owned by the City of Amsterdam. The proceeds from the solar energy will be passed on by the social organizations to the people of Amsterdam. This could be, for example, in the form of a city pass discount on tickets or memberships, or affordable lessons, such as a music lesson.
