Exactly one month from today, on Sunday, October 27, the celebration of the Amsterdam 750 jubilee year will begin. The year will kick off with an Opening Concert at the Ziggo Dome. Today, we reveal the spectacular set design for this special show.
The design draws inspiration from Amsterdam and its residents. “It brings artists and the audience closer together, with the most striking feature being three giant Andreas crosses hovering above the stage,” says Rhea Ruben, creative producer at Making Waves. “It’s modern but at the same time feels very familiar and truly Amsterdam.” Last year, Making Waves was selected, along with the Metropole Orkest, ISH Dance Collective, and ZO! Gospel Choir, to produce the concert.
For over a year, work has been underway on this large-scale production, which highlights key moments in Amsterdam’s history. More than 150 creatives, technicians, and performers are now involved in the preparations, and on the night itself, over 200 people will be on stage. The concert will be broadcast live by AVROTROS on NPO 2 at 8:25 PM on October 27, 2024.
“In one month, we will celebrate the start of this special year with 15,000 Amsterdammers and fans,” says Stijn Ceelen, executive producer of Making Waves. “It will be a unique, emotional, and unforgettable experience—an ode from the city to the city.”
The line-up features artists such as the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, André Hazes, Berget Lewis, Donnie, Trijntje Oosterhuis, and Willeke Alberti, accompanied by the Metropole Orkest. Comedy will be provided by Van der Laan & Woe and comedian Rayen Panday. Additionally, ISH Dance Collective and the Dutch National Ballet will deliver stunning performances. Visuals designed by filmmaker Jerom Fischer will be showcased on a spectacular LED screen.
