The Light of Amsterdam Shines in honor of Amsterdam 750

27 October 2024

To celebrate the 750th jubilee of Amsterdam, we will illuminate The Light of Amsterdam throughout the year, in the evening and early morning. The light symbolizes hope, warmth, and strength. The eight light columns, which converge in the sky, represent the seven districts and the municipality of Weesp.

The Light of Amsterdam

The light installation is partially inspired by the work of Jerom Fischer from Gaiia Studio for the Amsterdam 750 Opening Concert, in which The Light of Amsterdam plays a central role.

The Light of Amsterdam shines daily until the end of the jubilee year (October 27, 2025), from shortly after sunset until 11:00 PM and from 6:00 AM until approximately sunrise. For The Light, 28 lamps have been installed on the city hall, shining straight up to keep the light beam as narrow as possible. This helps prevent unsafe situations for air traffic and reduces the impact of light pollution.
