Wanted: Gifts for the Birthday City

03 June 2024

At the end of June, a massive "gift" will travel through Amsterdam and Weesp. This initiative aims to draw attention to the celebration of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary and to encourage residents to come up with a gift for the city.

The gift ideas can then be considered for a subsidy. Residents and (non-profit) organizations from Amsterdam, including Weesp and Driemond, can apply for a subsidy from Stichting Amsterdam 750 for initiatives specifically designed for the celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. On September 2, 2024, they will open the eighth and final subsidy round.

Applying for a subsidy

Subsidies of 10,000, 20,000, or 50,000 euros can be applied for. To support as many projects as possible, subsidies of 10,000 euros are primarily granted. All ideas are welcome, whether it’s a sports activity for young people, a large neighborhood dinner, a cultural event for the elderly, or a mix of themes, means, and target groups. It is important that the project remains valuable to citizens of Amsterdam even after the anniversary. Applications can be submitted on Monday, September 2, starting at 9:00 AM until the maximum is reached, which could happen very quickly. You can read the exact terms and conditions of the scheme here.

Huge gift on tour through Amsterdam and Weesp

From June 21 to 28, the enormous gift will travel through Amsterdam and Weesp. Stichting Amsterdam 750 invites residents of Amsterdam and Weesp to think about their contribution to the celebration of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. The gift will be placed in a different square each day, where visitors can get information about applying for a subsidy for their gift ideas for the anniversary. You can find the exact locations of the traveling gift here.

Information sessions and consultation hours

To involve less experienced applicants, information sessions will be organized to explain the subsidy scheme. Additionally, workshops will be held, and ongoing on- and offline consultation hours will be organized. You can find the exact times and locations of the information sessions, workshops, and consultation hours here.
