Events for everyone

You are organizing an event for Amsterdam 750. Ideally, you want everyone to be able to participate, including people with disabilities. What should you take into account, and how do you do that? We're happy to share some tips!

Some residents of Amsterdam experience visual impairment, blindness, hearing impairments, or deafness. Others rely on wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or walkers. Moreover, there are numerous residents with low literacy skills or language difficulties. Additionally, there are individuals in Amsterdam coping with mental health issues or autism, making them sensitive to crowds and sensory overload. By implementing minor adaptations and providing clear communication, you enable residents with diverse disabilities to identify accessible events.

TIP: Not sure what you need to arrange for that? Discuss your plans for the event with experts who have diverse disabilities or with organizations knowledgeable about accessibility.

As an organization, ask the following questions at the event/meeting:
– Can everyone with a disability access the location?
– Can everyone enter without assistance?
– Can everyone with a disability access food and drinks?
– Can everyone (including those with disabilities) access the restroom?
– Can everyone reach the counter or cash register, as well as the ATM?
