As a city you only turn 750 once in your life and you want to celebrate that with as many people as possible. With Amsterdam residents and everyone who holds the city in their hearts. That is why we are celebrating Amsterdam's 750th Birthday on June 21, 2025 - the longest day - on 15 kilometers of car-free Ring A10. This will be one of the highlights of the anniversary year of Amsterdam 750.
The A10, the place where thousands of cars race over it every day, which is crossed by thousands of Amsterdam residents every day. On their way to work, to school, to wherever and back home. For one day it is the place where Amsterdam residents come together to celebrate 750 years of Amsterdam. To have fun, with old friends and new acquaintances, to experience special things and make new memories. For one day it is not ‘inside the ring’, not ‘outside the ring’, but ‘On the Ring.
The idea for a large and freely accessible celebration on the Ring was first conceived 10 years ago by a group of more than 100 Amsterdam residents, united under the name ‘Amsterdam on its way to 750 years’. Preparations for the festival are now in full swing. The municipality of Amsterdam works together with, among others, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Rijkswaterstaat, safety and transport partners and with creative organizations, sports clubs and cultural institutions from the city. The development of the program and production is in the hands of the producer. On this page we will keep you informed about the program, the accessibility of the city and much more.
On Saturday 21 June the Op de Ring festival will be packed with music, sports, theater, dance & much more! Couples will be tying the knot Op de Ring, and the festival will kick off with the Run On the Ring. Here’s a little sneak peek — on 21 May we’ll reveal the full program!
On Saturday, June 21, the inner ring will be the place for festive visitors during the day and in the evening. To make the event possible, we will close a large part of the Ring A10 during the weekend of June 21-22. To prevent major congestion, bridges and streets in the city are also closed to car traffic.
It will be a festive day, organized for and by Amsterdam residents and everyone who holds the city in their hearts. That is why we have asked Amsterdam cultural institutions, creative organizations, neighborhood and neighborhood associations, foundations and sports clubs to organize activities that contribute to a surprising, festive and varied program. Think of music, dance, food and drink, theater, sports or art. In addition, there are also a number of special activities, such as the Wedding on the Ring and the Run, which is the starting signal for the festival. More information about the program will be announced later.
Five Amsterdam event producers (Tribe Company, Kingcanary, BEE-Agency, Backbone International and Skills Crowd Management) are working with the municipality on this event. The producers further develop the creative concept and see what fits well in terms of programming and production. Input from the Stem van 750, research among Amsterdam residents from O&S and advice from TeamA10 are taken into account.
No, it is currently no longer possible to register an activity.
There is already a lot of enthusiasm for the festival on the Ring. With 15 kilometers of car-free Ring Road, there is room for several hundred thousand visitors, but unfortunately not for the whole of the Netherlands.
The festival on the Ring is freely accessible. The entrance is free.
We recommend that visitors come to the festival on foot or by bicycle as much as possible. Several driveways will serve as entrances to the Ring.
In any case, do not come to the festival by car. There is no parking and the extra travel time to Amsterdam and within Amsterdam will be more than an hour. Separate drop-offs will be set up for the disabled.
Separate drop-off points will be set up for disabled people close to the various entrances. More information about the accessibility of the festival on the Ring will follow later.
On Friday evening, June 20, 2025, the Ring West, South and East (between the exit to the A5 and the exit to the A1) will be closed until Sunday, June 22. Bridges and streets in the city will also be closed.
Read more about the closures on the accessibility page.
The closure on the A10 and roads in the city has major consequences for traffic to, from and past Amsterdam. The urgent advice is not to come to Amsterdam by car this weekend. The extra travel time can amount to more than one hour. Read more about the closures on the accessibility page
Rijkswaterstaat advises road users to check the current traffic information before departure and to adjust their travel plans where possible or to choose an alternative means of transport.
