Amsterdam is a world city in miniature. With around 180 nationalities in the city, the hallways of secondary schools echo with a rich palette of languages and dialects. We make this diversity visible with the UvA-750 Languages Map. How many different languages are spoken in total? Which school and class are the most multilingual? And how does “Congratulations, city of Amsterdam, on your 750th anniversary” sound in all those languages and dialects?
Through the UvA-750 Languages Map, the foundation Taal naar Keuze maps out which languages and dialects are spoken in Amsterdam. You can be part of it!Fill in the Google Form before October 5th and let us know which language or dialect you speak. Or your entire class. Share it with your classmates too, so together you can show how multilingual your school is.
On October 27th, during Amsterdam’s official birthday, the Languages Map will be festively launched and presented as a gift to the city. The ten most multilingual schools will be invited to attend.
