Cruyff Street League 2025 Aftermovie

31 July 2025

Especially for Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, the city’s biggest street football tournament returned. With the Cruyff Street League, a sporting tradition was revived that dates back to the 1970s.

Training sessions, preliminaries and the final

Starting in November 2024, FC Straat training sessions were offered at various locations to prepare young people for the preliminary rounds of the street football tournament, which kicked off in March 2024. These preliminaries and the district finals took place on different squares throughout Amsterdam. All youngsters aged 10 to 15 were welcome to join, regardless of their football skills.

The highlight of the tournament took place on Saturday, 5 July 2025, when the final was played at the iconic Dam Square. This final formed a spectacular conclusion to the large-scale event.

A birthday gift to Amsterdam’s youth

The street football tournament was more than just a sporting event; it was a birthday present for the young people of Amsterdam. From the late 1970s until 2017, an annual street football tournament for youth was held in the city. Several participants from those years went on to become professionals, including Dennis Bergkamp and Richard Witschge. In 2024, the tournament finally made its return, with the promise of becoming a yearly tradition once again.
